Measured on six things

Faxvio is an online fax service. Send a fax from any browser, iPhone or Mac. First page free, then pay-as-you-go per page with no subscription.

Growth

62

Real problem (one-off faxes to landlords, doctors, agencies), specific wedge: free first page, non-expiring pay-per-page packs, 37 countries. Beats FaxZero's 3-page cap and Fax.Plus's verification gate on friction, but the category is shrinking.

About this app

Faxvio is a pay-as-you-go online fax service for sending faxes from a web browser, iPhone, iPad or Mac. There's no subscription, no fax machine and nothing to install on the web. Upload a PDF or a photo, enter the fax number, and Faxvio shows a black and white preview of how each page will print on the receiving machine, plus the exact price, before you pay. Your first page is free. After that you buy page packs starting at $1.09, as low as $0.18 per page, and pages never expire. If a fax fails, the pages go back to your balance automatically. Faxvio marks a fax as Delivered only after the receiving machine confirms it, and every fax gets a PDF receipt with the date, time, number and transmission ID. Faxvio sends faxes to 37 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Japan and Australia. It also has free fax tools: a cover sheet generator, number formatter, quality preview and cost calculator.

Key features

  • 1Pay-per-page fax: first page free, then packs from $1.09 (3 pages) to $9.99 (57 pages), pages never expire.
  • 2Black-and-white page preview and exact price shown in the browser before you sign in or pay.
  • 3Delivered status only after the receiving machine confirms, with a PDF receipt including transmission ID.
  • 4Automatic page refund to your balance when a fax fails, with the reason in plain words.
  • 5Sends to 37 countries with per-country number formatting (drops German trunk zero, keeps Italy's).
  • 6Passwordless sign-in via Google, Apple or 6-digit email code; no account needed until Send.

Scout Review

Written by AI from measured evidence, scored out of 100.

Faxvio is a pay-as-you-go online fax service that does one thing and does it cleanly. The pitch is honest: first page free, then page packs from $1.09 (3 pages) up to $9.99 (57 pages), pages never expire, failed faxes refund automatically, and Delivered only appears after the receiving machine confirms. The site is fast (Lighthouse 100/100 mobile and desktop), the app is localized in 21 languages, and the guides hub is unusually thorough for a tool this small. Weaknesses are real but modest: missing HSTS/CSP/Permissions-Policy headers, no visible SOC 2 or ISO claim, low-contrast secondary captions, and a store screenshot that hides its own UI. The category is shrinking, but within it Faxvio is a sharper, lower-friction option than FaxZero or Fax.Plus.

Measure by measure

Usability

74

Passwordless sign-in (Google/Apple/email code), price shown before account creation, and a guides hub covering iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows and Gmail. Onboarding-to-value is genuinely short: drop a PDF, see the price, send.

Design

71

Judging the app UI and store material: confident grotesk type, disciplined green/black/off-white palette with one red accent, and a hero that embeds the real fax form. Store screenshot 3 lets callout cards cover live UI.

Speed

88

Lighthouse mobile 100/100 with LCP 983ms, CLS 0, TBT 61ms; desktop also 100/100. The site is genuinely fast, and the in-browser page-count/preview work is done client-side before upload.

Security

63

HTTPS enforced, frame protection, X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy, SPF and DMARC all present (7/12 checklist). Missing HSTS, CSP and Permissions-Policy; no SOC 2/ISO claim visible. Passwordless auth is a real plus.

Accessibility

80

Lighthouse accessibility 100/100 and the app is localized in 21 languages. No public WCAG statement found, and the visual audit flags small low-contrast secondary captions on light panels — the one real gap.

Growth

62

Real problem (one-off faxes to landlords, doctors, agencies), specific wedge: free first page, non-expiring pay-per-page packs, 37 countries. Beats FaxZero's 3-page cap and Fax.Plus's verification gate on friction, but the category is shrinking.

Improvement areas

  • Missing HSTS, Content-Security-Policy and Permissions-Policy headers (7/12 on the security checklist).
  • No visible SOC 2, ISO or security/compliance page for business customers sending contracts.
  • Low-contrast secondary captions on light panels flagged in the visual audit.
  • Store screenshot 3 has callout cards covering the New fax card and In Progress list.

Design & Usability

Faxvio's design is judged on the app UI and store material, and it holds up: a confident wide grotesk headline, a restrained green/black/off-white palette with a single red accent, and a hero that embeds the actual Pages/Number/Send form so the core action is visible above the fold. The pricing block renders four stacked-paper tiers with per-page prices, which makes the cost model legible at a glance. The weak spot is store screenshot 3, where floating callout cards cover the New fax card and part of the In Progress list. Usability is the stronger half: no sign-up to start, passwordless Google/Apple/email-code login, price shown before you commit, and a guides hub covering iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, Gmail plus eight document types with screenshots. Onboarding-to-value is genuinely short.

Speed & Security

Speed is the standout: Lighthouse mobile 100/100 with LCP 983ms, CLS 0 and TBT 61ms, and desktop also 100/100. The page-count and black-and-white preview work happens in the browser before upload, which keeps the send path snappy. Security is competent but not exceptional: HTTPS enforced, frame protection, X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy, SPF and DMARC all present (7/12 on the header checklist), but HSTS, CSP and Permissions-Policy are missing and there is no visible SOC 2 or ISO claim. Passwordless auth via Google, Apple or a 6-digit email code is a genuine plus that reduces password-breach surface. For a pay-per-page consumer fax tool, this is on par with peers — not ahead.

Accessibility & Growth

Accessibility scores well: Lighthouse 100/100 and the app is localized in 21 languages, which is more than most indie tools bother with. The one real gap is the small, low-contrast secondary captions on light panels flagged in the visual audit, and there is no public WCAG statement. Growth is a judgement on the idea: the problem is real (one-off faxes to landlords, doctors, government agencies), the target customer is specific, and the wedge is concrete — free first page, non-expiring pay-per-page packs from $0.18, 37 countries with per-country number formatting. Against FaxZero (3 pages, 5 faxes/day, US/Canada only) and Fax.Plus (account + mobile verification before you send), Faxvio wins on friction. The honest limit: the fax category is structurally shrinking, so the ceiling is a well-run niche business, not a category leader.

Conclusion

If you need to send a fax once — to a landlord, a doctor's office, a government agency that never got the memo — Faxvio is the least annoying way to do it. No subscription, no account until you press Send, price on the button before you pay, and a PDF receipt with a transmission ID when it lands. The 37-country coverage and per-country number formatting (dropping the German trunk zero, keeping Italy's) is the kind of detail that suggests someone actually thought about this. The gaps — missing security headers, no compliance certifications, low-contrast captions — matter more to a small business sending contracts than to a consumer sending one lease. For the consumer use case, it is a solid, honest tool.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Add HSTS, Content-Security-Policy and Permissions-Policy headers — you're at 7/12 and the missing three are cheap wins.
  • Publish a short security/compliance page (data retention, encryption at rest, subprocessors) even without SOC 2.
  • Fix the low-contrast secondary captions on light panels; the visual audit flags them and it's a one-line CSS change.
  • Redo store screenshot 3 so the callout cards don't cover the New fax card and In Progress list.
