Every app on Scout Forge is measured against the same rubric, in the same way, and the result is a single number between 0 and 100.
We are saying this plainly rather than burying it. Every editorial review on this site is generated by a language model working from measured evidence — the speed, security and accessibility numbers below are collected by tooling before the review is written, not invented by the model. A human checks each app before it is listed, and reports from readers are read by a person. What the model does not do is decide who gets listed, who gets promoted, or what anything costs.
Usability and design together carry roughly half the weight. The rest is split across the other four, with speed ahead of security, growth and accessibility.
Can someone who has never seen this app finish the thing it exists to do? Onboarding, dead ends, error states, how much explaining the interface needs.
Visual hierarchy, consistency, restraint. Not whether it is fashionable — whether the design helps you or gets in the way.
Measured, not guessed. Lighthouse and PageSpeed runs against the live site, on the pages a real visitor lands on.
Transport security, security headers and DNS configuration, probed directly. A checklist, not an opinion.
Evidence that other people use it — things like Product Hunt upvotes, GitHub stars and public traffic ranking.
Contrast, keyboard reachability, labelling, and the automated accessibility checks that catch the rest.
It is not a percentage and it is not a pass mark. It is a position against the same rubric every other app on the site was measured with — which is the only thing that makes two scores comparable.
Most apps land somewhere in the middle of the range. A high score is genuinely hard to get, and it is meant to be: in 2026 we recalibrated after finding that older reviews had drifted upward over time, which had made the early scores worth less than they looked.
The headline number is the summary, not the argument. The six dimension scores on each app page tell you where an app is strong and where it is not, and a 62 that is weak on security is a very different app from a 62 that is weak on growth. Read that breakdown before you read the headline.
The exclusions matter as much as the inputs.
Buying a Featured placement or any other package changes where an app appears — never what it scores. The review is written before any purchase exists and is not revisited afterwards.
Domain age, an archive.org history and the existence of a social account measure survival, not traction. They are deliberately refused as growth evidence: a confidently wrong number is worse than an honest floor.
We never aggregate scores or star ratings from app stores or other directories. Every score on this site was produced by this rubric.
Submissions are checked by a human for spam and abuse before they go live. That check decides whether an app is listed — it does not touch the score.
We do not publish the exact weight of each dimension, or the curve that turns the six dimension scores into the headline number.
The reason is simple and we would rather state it than pretend the formula does not exist: published to the decimal point, the rubric stops being a measurement and becomes a checklist to game. The useful work is fixing the thing the score is pointing at, and a founder who knows the precise weights will optimise the weights instead.
