About this app
Joey is a hosted comment box for pages where you want to hear back from readers. Readers leave a note without an account or an email. Each one gets a random animal name or types their own. You decide whether to allow replies and likes, and you can accept private notes meant only for you. Share each box as a link or a QR code (PNG or SVG). You can also embed it in an iframe on Notion, Ghost, Tistory, beehiiv web posts on paid plans, or your own site. Substack, Medium, and email newsletters don't allow iframes, so add the link at the end. You get an email for each new comment or reply. Read, reply, pin, or delete from one dashboard. Anonymous posts pass a Cloudflare Turnstile check, and rate limits block bursts from one IP. Export responses as CSV, XLSX, or JSON. The Free plan has unlimited comment boxes, and the public page shows the 3 newest comments. Pro shows them all. No ads. English, Korean, and Japanese interface.

Scout Review
Written by AI from measured evidence, scored out of 100.
Joey is a hosted, anonymous comment box for people who publish — newsletter writers, bloggers, podcasters — and it is refreshingly honest about what it is. Readers leave a note with no account and no email, get a random animal name, and the writer reads, replies, pins or deletes from one dashboard. The site is fast (99 mobile Lighthouse), the design has real personality (fox mascot, peach palette, live comment card in the hero), and the free tier is genuinely usable with unlimited boxes. The weaknesses are depth rather than direction: security headers stop at HSTS/DMARC, there is no published audit, contrast fails accessibility, and the Pro tier's headline benefit is just 'show all comments' for $7.99/month. It is a well-built small tool with a clear niche, not a Disqus replacement for high-volume sites.
Measure by measure
Usability
66Prefilled anonymous name and a three-step explainer make the flow obvious fast. Language switcher buried in the footer is a real friction point for non-Korean visitors.
Design
70Warm peach palette, custom fox mascot and a live comment card in the hero make the page distinctive. Generic feature cards and a greyed-out CTA button hold it back.
Speed
88Lighthouse mobile 99/100 (LCP 1.1s, TBT 36ms, CLS 0.019) and desktop 100/100. Genuinely fast, lightweight page with no visible lag.
Security
52HTTPS enforced with HSTS, SPF and DMARC set. But no CSP, frame protection, or other hardening headers, and no published audits. Solid basics, thin depth.
Accessibility
78Lighthouse accessibility 96/100 with only a color-contrast failure. Multi-language UI (EN/KO/JA) and responsive layout are real pluses.
Growth
62Real problem (login-heavy comment systems) with a specific wedge: anonymous, no-account boxes shared by link/QR and embeddable where Disqus won't fit. Clear segment, modest ceiling.
Improvement areas
- Security headers are thin — add CSP with frame-ancestors, X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy and Permissions-Policy.
- No published SOC 2/ISO/pen-test or security page; a trust page would help B2B and paid conversions.
- Pro's headline benefit is only 'show all comments' — needs a stronger paid hook.
- Color-contrast failure on subheads and hero subcopy; language switcher buried in footer.
Design & Usability
Joey's homepage is warmer and more distinctive than most comment-tool landing pages: a peach-and-fox palette, a concentric arc backdrop, and a hero that shows a working comment card with a prefilled anonymous name instead of describing one. That live card is the best usability decision on the page — it removes the account-friction question before a visitor asks it. The three-step explainer (create, share, collect) keeps the flow legible. Where it slips: the middle of the page leans on generic numbered and icon cards plus a seven-row FAQ accordion, and the hero's '남기기' button is light grey enough to read as disabled. The language switcher lives only in the footer, so non-Korean visitors scroll through Korean copy to find it.
Speed & Security
Speed is the standout: Lighthouse mobile 99/100 with LCP 1.1s, TBT 36ms and CLS 0.019, and a perfect 100 on desktop. The page is light and snappy, which matters for a tool meant to be embedded on other people's sites. Security is competent but shallow. HTTPS is enforced with HSTS, and SPF and DMARC are configured, so the email-alert pipeline has basic anti-spoofing. But the header probe found no CSP, no frame protection, no X-Content-Type-Options, no Referrer-Policy and no Permissions-Policy — six of twelve checklist points. For a product whose core feature is iframe embedding, the missing frame-ancestors policy is the most notable gap. No SOC 2, ISO or pen-test claims appear on the site.
Accessibility & Growth
Accessibility scores 96/100 on Lighthouse, with a single failing audit: insufficient color contrast — the same light-grey-on-white used in subheads and hero subcopy. The interface ships in English, Korean and Japanese, and the layout is responsive, which is more language coverage than most peers at this stage. Growth is a judgement on the idea: Joey names a real problem (comment systems that demand logins and drown in spam) and targets a specific segment — newsletter writers, bloggers, podcasters and communities — with a concrete wedge: anonymous, no-account comment boxes shared by link or QR and embeddable in Notion, Ghost, Tistory and beehiiv. That is a genuine differentiator against Disqus and Hyvor Talk, though the ceiling is modest because the category is crowded and the paid tier's main hook is simply 'show all comments'.
Conclusion
If you run a newsletter or blog where the comment section is either absent or a login-walled ghost town, Joey is worth a free-tier test — the anonymous, link-and-QR model fits exactly where iframes don't. If you need threaded moderation at scale, SSO, or compliance paperwork, look at Hyvor Talk or Disqus instead. The product's direction is sound; the next step is hardening the embed story (CSP/frame-ancestors) and giving Pro a reason beyond 'see every comment'.
Suggestions for improvement
- Add a Content-Security-Policy with frame-ancestors so iframe embeds are explicitly governed, not just allowed.
- Fix the color-contrast failure — darken subheads and hero subcopy so the 96/100 becomes a clean sweep.
- Give Pro a concrete feature beyond 'show all comments' — e.g. custom branding, webhooks, or reply templates.
- Move the language switcher into the header so non-Korean visitors can switch without scrolling to the footer.
