About this app

SheetScroll is a sheet music reader and automatic page turner. With Pro, it listens as you play, through the microphone or a MIDI piano, and turns the page two beats before the end, so both hands stay on the instrument. When two passages sound alike, it holds the page until the music tells them apart. It follows repeats, endings, D.S. and coda, and finds you again when you stop, go back or loop the hard bars. The reader is free: PDFs, scans, MusicXML, MuseScore, Guitar Pro, MIDI and chord charts, with annotations, setlists, pedal turns and eight built-in courses. In leader mode, one device listens and a whole band's pages turn with it. Private by design: sound is analyzed on the device and never recorded or sent. No account, no ads, works offline. Runs in the browser and on Mac, Windows, Linux and Android; iPhone and iPad are in App Store review. Pro: $5.99 a month, $29.99 a year (2 weeks free) or $79.99 once.

Key features

  • 1Hands-free page turns by microphone or MIDI, two beats before the end, holding when passages sound alike.
  • 2Follows repeats, first/second endings, D.S. and coda; finds you again after stops, restarts and loops.
  • 3Free reader for PDF, scans, MusicXML, MuseScore, Guitar Pro, MIDI, ABC, MEI and Humdrum with annotations and setlists.

Target customer profile

Drawn from the product itself, not from a survey.

Demographic

Piano students, adult learners and their teachers

Pain points

Turning the page costs a bar, and both hands and a foot are busy. Timed scrolling breaks when they slow down or loop a passage.

Primary needs

Hands-free turns that follow real practice: stops, restarts, loops, playing hands separately

Demographic

Church and worship musicians

Pain points

Repeats, D.S. and coda across many verses. Juggling a whole service's music in order.

Primary needs

Turns that follow repeats and jumps, a setlist for each service, chord charts that transpose

Demographic

Performers, accompanists, choirs and bands

Pain points

An early or missed turn on stage. Pedals to pair and charge. Each player turning separately.

Primary needs

A turn that waits until it's sure, nothing on screen but the music, offline use, one device turning everyone's pages

Scout Review

Written by AI from measured evidence, scored out of 100.

SheetScroll is a sheet music reader whose Pro tier listens through the mic or MIDI and turns pages two beats before the end, holding when passages sound alike and following repeats and jumps. The reader is free across PDF, scans, MusicXML, MuseScore, Guitar Pro and MIDI, with annotations, setlists, pedal turns and eight courses. It runs on web, Mac, Windows, Linux and Android, with iOS in review. Measured evidence is strong where it exists: perfect Lighthouse performance and accessibility scores, a full security-header suite, and a credible on-device privacy model. The gaps are verification gaps — no third-party security audit, no WCAG statement, and app-UI polish inferred rather than seen.

Measure by measure

Usability

70

Free reader, no account, offline, 2-week Pro trial, eight free courses, and library import from forScore/MobileSheets. Onboarding path is clear from the site; actual in-app flow not independently tested.

Design

74

Judging the app UI from store material and site: consistent cross-platform look, dark practice-friendly theme, clean landing page with a live Bach demo. Store screenshots not captured this run, so app-UI polish is inferred, not verified.

Speed

88

Lighthouse mobile 100/100 (LCP 1.3s, CLS 0.001, TBT 44ms) and desktop 100/100. The marketing site is genuinely fast; in-app performance not measured.

Security

78

Full header suite (HSTS, CSP, frame protection, Referrer/Permissions-Policy), SPF+DMARC, 12/12 probe points. On-device audio analysis, no account, encrypted sync via user's own cloud. No SOC 2/ISO claim found.

Accessibility

80

Lighthouse accessibility 100/100 and 14 UI languages including CJK and RTL-adjacent scripts. No public WCAG statement found; automated checks cover only part of WCAG, so scored mid-band.

Growth

68

Real, specific pain (hands-free turns that follow repeats and jumps) with a genuine wedge over pedal/gesture rivals. Worship and ensemble leader mode widen the market. Early stage: domain 0.1 years old.

Improvement areas

  • No third-party security audit or pen-test published to back the on-device privacy claims.
  • No WCAG conformance statement; accessibility verified only by automated Lighthouse checks.
  • App UI polish inferred from site claims — store screenshots not surfaced in this review run.

Design & Usability

SheetScroll's site is a clean, dark, demo-forward landing page that shows the product doing the thing — Bach's Prelude turning pages live. Because it ships through the App Store, the app UI is the real design surface, and the site's claim of 'the same look on every device' is the only design evidence captured this run; store screenshots weren't fetched, so app polish is inferred. Usability is the stronger story: free reader, no account, offline, a 2-week Pro trial, eight free courses, and import from forScore/MobileSheets libraries. The onboarding path reads clearly from the site, but the in-app flow wasn't independently tested, so this sits at good-not-excellent.

Speed & Security

Speed is the standout measured result: Lighthouse mobile 100/100 with LCP 1.3s, CLS 0.001 and TBT 44ms, and desktop also 100/100. The marketing site is genuinely snappy, though in-app performance on a tablet mid-rehearsal wasn't measured. Security is solid on the infrastructure side — HTTPS enforced, HSTS, CSP, frame protection, Referrer and Permissions-Policy, SPF and DMARC, 12/12 probe points. The product's privacy pitch is credible: audio analyzed on-device, never recorded or sent, no account, sync through the user's own encrypted cloud. What's missing is third-party attestation — no SOC 2, ISO or pen-test claim surfaced, so it lands good, not excellent.

Accessibility & Growth

Accessibility scores well on what was measured: Lighthouse 100/100 and 14 interface languages including Japanese, Korean and both Chinese scripts. No public WCAG conformance statement was found, and automated audits only cover part of WCAG, so the score stays mid-band rather than top. Growth is a judgement on the idea: the problem — turning pages with both hands and a foot busy — is real and specific, and the wedge over forScore and MobileSheets is genuine, since those rely on pedals, gestures or timed scroll while SheetScroll listens and follows repeats, D.S. and coda. Leader mode for ensembles and worship setlists widen the addressable market. It's early — the domain is 0.1 years old — but the idea has room.

Conclusion

Against forScore, MobileSheets and Newzik, SheetScroll's differentiator is the one thing those tools don't list: turning the page by listening. That's a real wedge for pianists, accompanists and worship musicians who can't spare a hand or a foot. The pricing is fair — free reader, $29.99/year or $79.99 lifetime — and the privacy stance is unusually clean. What would move this from good to excellent is proof: a published security audit, a WCAG statement, and store screenshots that show the app UI rather than asking us to trust the landing page. The foundation is there; the receipts aren't yet.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Publish a third-party security audit or pen-test summary to back the 'encrypted' and 'never recorded' claims.
  • Add a WCAG conformance statement and document screen-reader behavior for the reader views.
  • Show real app screenshots on the site so the app UI — not just the landing page — can be evaluated.
  • Clarify cross-platform Pro licensing edge cases (store vs. license key) in a single comparison table.
